Introduction

How Great Generals Win:
The 13 Rules of War from Ancient Greece to the War on Terror

History 361, Longwood University, Farmville, Virginia

In this section I present information on an advanced college course on the rules of war that I have been teaching at Longwood University, Farmville, Virginia, for a number of years. The syllabus or description of the course is presented first. Text for this course is my book, How Wars Are Won. The course takes up one chapter of the text for study every week. You may take the course yourself by home study by reading the chapter details for each week and by studying the summary of the most important facts in each chapter that is provided. A study guide of important material contained in the course is included as are three short files: one on Numbers that you should know; another on Ockham’s Razor, a theory that you also should know; and the third on Writing, a summary of some essential rules of composition. I hope you enjoy studying the course in this way. If you have any questions, I’ll be happy to answer them by email.

Sincerely yours,
Bevin Alexander
